Frequentlu Asked Questions

| |
I have heard that stainless steel exhaust manifolds crack? |
| |
All Hi-Tek manifolds are Mig welded (this creates strength) and also Tig welded (this process melts the two welded surfaces together). The structural design of the Hi-Tek manifold creates a strong unit. The commonly referred to cracking relates to “tube in tube” designs of high output manifolds available in US. |
| |
How long will they last? |
| |
We guarantee them for 5 years and have 10 year old ones still in service. |
| |
How Do I know they will fit my engine? |
| |
For every model manifold we produce, we have originals and create the tooling from those. Because the manifolds are fabricated they are also more compact than cast units. |
| |
I have things bolted directly to the manifolds at the moment, what will happen with your manifolds? |
| |
For direct factory replacements we include all necessary brackets for accessories, to ensure that you receive the manifolds with all necessary brackets, please list what is currently attached to port and starboard manifolds and ideally send JPG picture to confirm location. Some brackets are standard and some may have to be added due to past modifications to your installation. |
| |
My engine is not stock, or I have tight engine space do you make special fitments? |
| |
We make custom units to suit most requirements. Please provide specific details (e.g. taller rocker covers). |
| |
I have (3”, 6”, 12”) spacers between my manifold and riser. |
| |
We make the manifold with the required additional height all in one piece. |
| |
I have a silent choice, captains call, etc system to switch from through sterndrive to through transom exhaust? |
| |
Our manifolds have exactly the same exhaust outlet location as standard. Please specify what type of exhaust is fitted to your engine. |
| |
You state that your manifolds have one water inlet to reduce chances of leaking, my raw water setup has separate water inlet to riser and manifold? |
| |
Our manifolds only need one water inlet. We can supply a stainless “Y” pieces to adapt your current system. |
| |
I have closed fresh water cooling, what do you supply to fit? |
| |
For fresh water cooling, our manifolds are excluded from the cooling circuit, thus improving the efficiency of your fresh water cooling system (the existing manifold fresh water circuit is looped). |
| |
I currently have through transom exhausts. |
| |
Please advise and we will supply manifolds with exhaust outlet as required . Supplying JPG. picture of your current installation is ideal(you may need mufflers which we can also supply). |
| |
I am doing a custom installation/ re-powering, can you help? |
| |
We can make custom installations (you will need to supply details). |
| |
I have heard that welded stainless steel can “rust” at the weld. |
| |
All manifolds are bead blasted to prevent this and stress relieve welding. This is more effective than the commonly used “pickling” process for welded stainless steel. |
| |
Why is polishing more expensive |
| |
The reason mirror polished manifolds cost considerably more is because the welding and handling of the manifolds is more time consuming (the detail finishing required to make them ready for polishing). The polishing process is also more expensive than powder coating. Both finishing processes are outsourced. |
| |
Can I have the manifolds unpainted to save cost. |
| |
We cannot supply manifolds in an un-powdercoated state as this would reflect badly on the product. (The real reason for this request is generally because the customer thinks he can polish them himself). This will not work for reasons already stated. |
